FAQ

We are working on a new/ more updated FAQ section as we move forward. Stay tuned :)

How We Train

Classes

3-5 Year Olds These dancers work on taking turns, good listening ears, and developing age appropriate motor skills.

6-17 year olds We train with a bit more of a European mindset- that students start a more disciplined training at age 6, so that by the time they turn 8, we can start pushing more detailed work/ technique.

Mind

Much of dance is all about our mentality. Often, if we are struggling it is because our own minds are holding us back.

We work on positivity and encouragement of ourselves and fellow dancers.

You'd be amazed what you can do if you put your mind to it!

Body Awareness

We train our dancers to be aware. We work on understanding the difference between soreness due to working out our muscles, vs. improper use of muscles and body placement.

Reminder: We are not medical professionals and can not advise as such.

Strength Building & Flexibility

We do not encourage our dancers to force turn-out. This has been proven time and time again how detrimental it is to the body. Instead, we work on building the proper alignment to minimize risk.

We respect personal space and therefore ask, before we adjust.

We allow our dancers bodies to do the work. If given a correction, stretching, strengthening, assisted adjusting- it is up to the dancer. The body naturally allows or doesn't allow movements based on its own abilities and these vary dancer to dancer. Example: We will never push someone into the splits, though we have everyone practice them.

REST!!!

Our schedule is specifically designed to give dancers 1-2 days of rest throughout the week.

Days of rest should not include extra stretching or strength building. They are meant to allow the body to recover from training.

Different Ways We Train

  1. Class: This is where we train for technique, strength, flexibility, discipline. . .

  2. Notes: Leveled dancers take notes (typically at the end of each class )based on their syllabus. As performances near, near we encourage notes pertaining to their piece(s). For dancers who are learning to write- we draw pictures to help retain details.

  3. Rehearsals: We learn endurance, how to over-come obstacles, perseverance, coordination, working with others. . .

  4. Performances: This is where we build our confidence, stage presence, and pull everything together that we work so hard for!

  5. Evaluations: We do evaluations twice throughout the year- at the end of each semester (not over summer). This is basically a dance report card of what we are observing in class. We discuss areas where students are excelling and areas that may need improving.

  6. Testing: Our leveled dancers do a physical test to demonstrate their ability to execute steps. They also have a written test to demonstrate vocabulary knowledge/ retention.
